Tomorrow a new adventure will start. I will leave for El Hierro, the smallest inhabited island of the Canary Islands, as an artist in residence.

What attracted me was:
the remoteness,
the restricted amount of people living there and going there,
the pure air,
the politics of protecting nature there and using only wind and solar energy on the whole island,
the powerful presence of a volcanic earth surrounded by the ocean,
the attraction of sunlight reflecting on the water,
the mild climate.

Again there is that yearning to find a way of living a simple life, close to nature in a more clean unpolluted environment.

I want to work a little bit further during my 3 months stay on a project of painting the experience of connection with nature and also connecting with nature while using my voice. I am not especially gifted when it comes to music. When I want to sing a song I am very often out of tune. But I love to use my voice in simple vocal improvisations. It gives me an intense joy and sense of freedom.
Listening to where my own voice wants to go often goes together with vivid dreamlike images. It is like looking into memories of experiences totally different from my present life. It is like travelling to a different world or travelling in time. It is a way of connecting on a very different level then ordinary verbal communications.

Right now very much looking forward to it and excited. I don't like travelling but I like to be in an unknown location with a strong presence of nature.
