After the British Museum the National Gallery in London. It was great to see many of the works you find in overviews of art history for real. The striking skills of observation, the mastery of movement, the subtle, tender precision. The use of materails. I saw a lot of paintings in egg tempera sometimes mixed with oilpaint. It did teach me a lot.
The first portret from Rembrand shows a striking familiarity with some of my ancestors. It was shocking to recognise that, bringing them suddenly in another perspective.
