The recurring stress which the traffic, cars and planes create in my environment gives me a focus on trying to imagine alternatives. It is simply impossible that we all have to continue to live with the inconvenience. It will change but how long will it take before those alternatives are found? I discussed the topic with some friends and a few days later woke up at night and could see how it might be. My mind continues working on this problem even while I am sleeping.
It will probably be something like the development of our telephone system. First it was with wires connecting person a with person b. The audio signal was guided via the wires. The operator made the right connections. That is similar to what we still do with our cars. The roads are the wires bringing the person from location A to B, a plane follows invisible wires the shortest distance trough the air from A to B. Telephones are now wireless. If transportation can be wireless, no roads are needed. The person just gives in his departure point and destination and is transferred instantly. It means that the person must be identified as a packet of information and energy. Which is actually not that far from what people are, and also not that far from what already happens in data transfer. May be we will have to step into a special place where this encoding happens or put on a special suit which connects us to the encoding system. Of coarse people do change so their codes change too. Once this is technically made possible. Our whole world will change. Imagine you can see theatre performance or go to concerts wherever you want in the world. In winter you can decide to go for a few hours to a sunny place to get some sun but be back for your evening meal with the family. A lot of transportation of products will not be needed any more. If you want some bananas and you live in a place where they don't grow naturally you just go and get some. I think people will still want to be close to their dear ones and be connected to specific areas, where they have a place to live. Although that might also change. Products could be transported in the same way, encoding their energy and information and transfer them. Probably directly to our individual mailboxes which might be a little bit more fancy than they are now. National territories will probably totally lose their political and economical significance. Differences in climate zones and natural characteristics will make that different areas maintain their own specific flavour and ambiance and that travelling will remain attractive. An interesting thing will be how this new way of transportation affects health, physically and mentally. Will it be as damaging as the actual cars and planes are or will it affect us in another way? Hopefully there is no damaging radiation needed, like with our actual cellphones. Of coarse it will affect the functioning of our brains as well, new cognitive skills might develop and others will get lost.
