Les Combarelles

Today the cave of Les Coimbarelles wit a small group and a passionate guide.
Again the limited height in prehistoric times was impressive. And that the engraving only begin after 150 metres crawling inside. The paint is gone due to the humidity in the cave. Only vague traces are left. Hundreds of engravings are made overlapping each other.
When fresh the lines are white in a dark surface. Like I see sometimes when I close my eyes. They are not made to impress, most of them are small scale.
There are many human figures, some faces, drawn in an almost caricatural way. Sometimes considered whether it has been made by children. They look so humoristic and playful.
The animals they have drawn were not the animals they did hunt and eat or had as domestic animals. Their diet was supposed to be for 80% meat of reindeer and fish or rabbit. The first domestic animal was a dog. They depict horses and cows and mammoths.

I don't know why all this excites me so much...
